PSP Games Overview by Title - D

![]() As with so many other arcade translations, the PSP's directional buttons don't do justice to this 2D fighter. In addition, the characters and graphics have aged less gracefully than other ports of arcade fighting titles. |
![]() Gamers who enjoy platformers are probably familiar with Jax & Daxter on the PS2. Daxter is a "prequel" to the series, and brings an original title to the PSP instead of another PS2 port. In this game Jax is nowhere to be found, and Daxter shifts from being a sidekick to the main character. Platform enthusiasts will appreciate Daxter on all levels since the graphics, audio, and game-play are all impressive. Gameplay is solid with great controls adapted for the PSP. Each level offers varying objectives including squashing enemies, collecting objects, collecting power-ups, and achieving greater goals. Mini-games are not just a distraction, because they are required for developing new character skills and access to new levels. The graphics and audio are impressive, with detailed environments, character animations, and cut-scenes. Playing Daxter with earbuds or headphones will make the audio experience that much better. While there are occasional issues with the camera, they are infrequent and easily resolved using the excellent and easy-to-use camera controls. Daxter is highly recommended because it offers enough attitude, story, levels, and varied game-play to keep things interesting for both platform fans and general gamers alike. |

![]() The story, humor, graphics, environments, and audio are noteworthy. It's too bad the play doesn't live up to the presentation, mainly because it is standard platformer action that has been better executed in other original PSP titles. |
![]() The graphics are often impressive, nevertheless this shooter-fest is handicapped by a flaky targeting system and camera problems. If the weak story doesn't prematurely end play by quitting the game, it will still be finished in a few hours. |
![]() The visuals in this platform-shooter are reminiscent of Tim Burton's animations, but they don't fully succeed. Some areas are too dark to see what is going on, the music is wearisome, the targeting system is annoying, and the camera requires constant manipulation to see what is going on. |
![]() A great soundtrack and excellent retro setting are marred by poor frame-rates, low-res textures, and interruptive loading. When things work this title shines, but the majority of the time it feels too much like a GTA clone. |
![]() This button-mashing, fighting extravaganza would be better if the otherwise excellent graphics didn't slow down during battles. While there is a strategy element, it is difficult to figure out how it affects the game outcome. |
