Logitech Playgear Pocket

Manufacturer: Logitech
Price: $19.95
Requirements: Sony PSP

Keeping your PSP pretty can be difficult, since its shiny surfaces are easily scratched. Worse yet is dropping it and the potential damage that ensues. While Sony includes a neoprene sleeve with the PSP, it isn't practical for use during travel because the sleeve blocks access to headphone and power ports. Logitech's PlayGear Pocket solves these issues.

The PlayGear Pocket is a clear polycarbonate shell with a black padded lining. The case closes securely with a latch, protecting the PSP during travel and storage. While closed there is still access to the shoulder buttons, power and WiFi switches, power port, and headphone jacks through cutouts in the case. The button and port access means the PSP can be safely stored in a pocket, purse, or backpack while still playing music or other media.

The lid opens up to 270 degrees, offering a range of additional uses. When partially open, the lid acts as a visor against glare. The PlayGear Pocket becomes a desktop-PSP stand when the lid is opened fully. While open, the PlayGear Pocket is surprisingly comfortable for gameplay. All frequently used buttons and ports are easily accessible, but the PSP must be removed from the case to access Memory Sticks, UMDs, and the USB port.

There only two issues with the PlayGear Pocket are bulk and weight. Contrary to its name, the case is too large and heavy for most pockets. While playing the PSP in the case works well, holding the weight of both for an extended time can be a surprising workout for the hands, wrists, and forearms.

Results: Good

Even with the added weight and size, the PlayGear Pocket does exactly what it was designed for, does it well, and is a vast improvement over Sony's neoprene sleeve.
