Quicktime VRs with Blender 3D

Because Quicktime is available for multiple platforms, presenting material using the technology will reach a wide audience. The easiest way to create a VR is using the cubic method. This method is almost self-explanatory, in which six images of a scene representing the faces of a cube are rendered with the camera in the center.

Step 1

With the camera in the correct position, the camera angle must be changed by selecting the camera, viewing the Editing buttons, and changing the Lens setting to 16 (it is normally 35 by default). Then the six images need to be rendered in order representing each of the cubic view faces.

Step 2

Numbering the images correctly will make the processing easier. There are multiple ways of transferring the six rendered images into cubic format. Apple provides a simple utility for Mac users called MakeCubic, and Windows users can use GoCubic. These apps will convert the six images into a Quicktime VR movie.

That's all there is to it. You can find some of our Quicktime VRs using this method in our Catamaran VR Gallery. A great script by Joshua Seaver is available that automates the Quicktime VR creation process.
